Above nisab?

Educational tool, not a fatwa. Scholars differ on details (e.g. gold jewellery in everyday use); confirm your case with a qualified scholar.

How it works

Once your net wealth stays above the nisab for one lunar year, you give 2.5% of it. This tool adds your zakatable assets, subtracts debts due now, and compares the total to the nisab (the value of 87.48g gold or 612.36g silver — many use the lower silver figure). For details see zakat on gold and zakat on stocks.

Frequently asked questions

How much zakat do I pay?

2.5% of your net zakatable wealth (assets minus immediate debts), if that wealth has stayed at or above the nisab for one lunar year.

What is the nisab?

The minimum wealth before zakat is due: the value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver. Use today's local price per gram; many scholars prefer the lower silver figure.

Do I pay zakat on stocks?

Most scholars say yes — shares held for trading at 2.5% of market value, long-term holdings on their zakatable portion. See our zakat-on-stocks guide.
